Description
Lord Hanuman is also called “langra veer”; langra in Hindi means limp and fire means “brave”. The story behind Hanuman calling himself langra is as follows. He was injured when he was crossing Ayodhya with the mountain in his hands. As he passed through Ayodhya, Bharat, Rama’s younger brother, saw him and assumed that some Rakshasa were taking this mountain to attack Ayodhya. Bharat then shot Hanuman with an arrow, which was engraved with the name Rama. Hanuman didn’t stop this arrow because he had Rama’s name written on it, and he hurt his leg. Hanuman landed and explained to Bharat that he was moving the mountain to save his own brother, Lakshmana. Bharat, very sorry, offered to shoot an arrow towards Lanka, which Hanuman could roll in order to reach his destination more easily. But Hanuman refused the offer, preferring to fly alone, and he continued his journey with his injured leg. Hanuman is a Hindu god, who was an ardent devotee of Rama according to Hindu legends. He is a central character in the Indian epic Ramayana and its various versions. He also finds mentions in several other texts, including the Mahabharata, the various Puranas and some Jain texts.
